Series of reports 6b

We set out to film our indents the way we accomplished this task was by having different roles in our team so that we could keep all the work organized. I was in charge of being the assistant director I helped the director with various tasks but I also helped with the animation as well. The first ident that we worked on was the sports ident which was Daniel Taiwo's idea this involved us having to book the gym but this was difficult as teachers were doing other things like teaching there classes so booking the gym was quite difficult but when we were able to gain access we immediately started working on our ident. What we set out to do from this example of work was to make a professional standard ident which would be appealing to our target audience that is why we had Daniel Taiwo working on most of the animation as he was most skilled in this field we went about this first filming our idents and then animating over them this was to make it appealing to our client as well.

When we we went about our work we made sure that it was deatailed enough not only this but to make sure that it was suitable before filming some of the work however was harder to complete than others but we were able to finish it nether the less. When is came to work like the production plans and schedules this was Tamaira's role as the producer this was creating a schedule for filming the idents and it was also making a pack with work that the client can see this was the production log and it contained all the neccasassary information needed to understand our idents.

My role was to be the assistant director I wassupposed to help the director if he needed it on certain tasks such as the animatic which required our attention even the story boards if neccassaty. One of the things I did in particular though was to help with the animation and to make sure that I was completed to a reasonable standard I started on animations the first ident which I later let Daniel animate as it was his ident and he knew what it wanted to look like so I worked on my ident which was on a con as in the green room.

Responding to the brief was more difficult than I thought as I was unorganised I se t my team back a bit which I should have taken responsibility for and the other team memeber were struggling because of the not all the tasks were behind on schedule though mainly the actual idents were which were hard to accomplish because of the time schedule but were were eventually able to complete all the idents by the deadline the only problem was that I failed to upload my work for the group however this can be accomplished by silmply making sure that we all have our idents uploaded which would be extreamly beneficial. With written tasks we were normally up to date we didn't have to retry as a lot of our written work was to an acceptable standard.

When it came to changes we didn't really have to make many this was because we already did some of our work to the standard we wanted it. The changes we did have to make were one of the idents and production plans this was because one of the idents we made didn't correlate with our themes so we had to change it so that it made sense with our other idents. We then filmed a newident in the studio filming music as this was more created and linked with the enrichment program so that it would fit well with our themes we filmed this ident in the studio and we were able to animate most of it as well. One ident was supposed to have 5 dancers but we only recieved one but it was still good on the less this just required a change in the written reports. One of the big things we had to change was the production log this was unacceptable to the client as the information inside the log was too vague and it wad not representable as an actual production we quickly made changes into making the production log more suitable and then we finally gave it to the client.

This is the series of reports explaining our processes and management during the production.

diary entry 3

i. Meeting with deadlines some of the deadlines we were expecting to meet were on time were as others were not when working with the client we were successfully able to give him the work he required. some of the deadlines we met were set back due to difficulties with our production log we then worked hard to make the log more acceptable.

ii. liaison with the client was fairly simple on our meeting we talked about the products we were going to work on which were the idents we talked about our ideas and the themes which was enrichment which was envolved various activities such as sports and creative arts.

Consulting with the client i/ii

When the client came into the CTK building he talked to us about what the idents should look like and what the CTK actually means so he talked to us about the color scheme how it had to be purple but not only that but he didn't want to leave any subjects out like science, english and maths we had to explain as a team why we wanted to do what we wanted to do so we said that this would be boring and would not appeal to adults this is why we said that making the idents about the various activities of enrichment would be much more appealing to them. We had to do this because we want our idents to be highly sophisticated and interesting to look at so we consulted with the client telling him why english and maths would be boring and it wouldn't appeal to teenagers.

We then created the storyboards for the ident as we all came up with one idea each we all did the storyboard of our idea. that way when we had to talk to the client again we explained why our ideas would appeal to teenagers especially. We did agree with the client on a number of things though we thought that the logo can help a lot due to its circular design. this would have been easy to animate as well. One of the questions we asked was about the colour scheme and what would be appropriot so we then got our answer from the client and he said the best colour would be the collage colour which would be purple so we asked to see if we could use any other colours and we were able to deduce that we were able to use many colours for the moving image but the logo had to be in its purple colour.

This was an example of discretion as we wanted to unlock as much of the creative potential we could so when we talked about the colour changes we were being discrete as the colour are the most important factors for an ident. this is because not all colours are appropriate as in some professional idents bright colours are not particularly preferred as the colour can have a slight change of sound. the is why we were being discrete with the client we liked the idea of purple but this would have to be a neutral purple so not too dark not too bright.

Conclusion: In total we were able to be extremely free with our creativity which would help us to make the best ident we could. We were given a nice access to color as well which made the ident designs for our group much more vibrant and exotic this then was when we talked to the client about our ideas and to see of we could create them. The client was happy to let us start filming this idents.

Wednesday, 17 May 2017

Opportunities were working with the client to fill the brief and I was able to expand our creativity the reason why we wanted this was to be free with our work and enjoy filming it. Another reason is that we can make the idents look more like idents this way we could work hard into making our ident package interesting.

Planning was quite simple as we laid it out clearly how we wanted to make these idents this is because planning would be the most important step in our production. We had to remake the production plan as we were missing some of the information. We laid out the idents in an order and that we would complete one of the idents each. Another would work on the animation this is how we planned it out.

I developed many new skills during this production even skills I have never used before. with this unit I learned how to use animation and I quickly adapted to this new style of editing I learned by creating a stick figure when I created this I followed up with an animation transforming the stick figure into a logo. I quickly learned how to use this new skill so I then decided to push myself further.

I created an art style of an insect man this I then animated by rotoscoping which was one other skill I picked up.

I quickly found myself as the team animator and I quickly adapted to this skill and I found that this was very time consuming.

This was one of the best ways to make our project stand out the way we had to manage time was hard as one person would have to animate the work we filmed so I decided I wanted to do the animation I would turn up to the shoots and as we were finished I would start animating while the group would work on the next Ident.

Multi-skilling was hard to manage as w relied on it a lot as the team were working on an ident I would use the time to animate the first ident this was still a good way to manage time as we were completing multiple tasks at once.

I contributed by working on the animation of the project this way I was able to do the long tasks while my group went out to film the idents when they brought one back I would have finished the first ident I started on, this would save time and make it easier for my group as this would take the weight off of there shoulders.

Amendment to Budget

I amended a list of things on my budget firstly I went back and looked for the right prices for the equipment I used an example of 200 to 600 pounds for exampleI also went and looked for a graph for London underground travel costs. This was then a more clear description of the prices needed for the products required for the production. I also added bus costs for oyster and i found it was £1.50 these were the final things I changed for the budget but the last thing I had to do was look for the individual prices for props that are going to be used.

Group Production Plan

Production PlanDirector/Editor: Nigel Chitme Assistant Director: Tamaira LynchDOP/Animator: Tommy Griffin Camera Operator: Daniel Taiwo Assistant Camera operator: Ashley Davy.

Days of production
Responsibility
What has to be done
1
Director
On the first day the director needs to explain the idea to the rest of their team, therefore the team can understand the idea fully and has an idea on which person is having which role. This is very important because if the members in the team doesn’t know the idea then they won’t be able to do their role within the team when they start to do the production. A lot of money could be decreased because of the lack of understanding of the idea, which is very bad for the business.
2
DOP/Animator
The DOP job is the producing the storyboard of the idea to show how the final piece should look. This is a guideline for the team when they are working on the piece.
3
Assistant Director
The assistant director role is to source the locations that they need for the idea and they need to see if that particular location is suitable for their idea. Also they need to gain permission to shoot on the premises that they want to shoot on and they need to create the shooting schedule.
4
Camera Operator
/Director/Assistant Director
These roles need to book out the equipment that they need to film, they also need to source the talent and they need to get the talent to sign a release form as proof that they give you’re their consent that you are allowed to film them.
5
Every Role
Shoot
6
Every Role
Shoot
7
Every Role
Shoot
8
Editor
The editor’s role is to edit the whole footage and make it look like an ident
9
Everybody
Submit the work to the client.

The ident will begin by having the CTK logo appearing on the screen for literally one second only, then immediately after, the first letter, 'G, appears in big and bold writing. Then that letter will fade out, and the footage for the letter 'G' will appear and play for about 3-4 seconds on screen. So, for the letter 'G', which is for the word 'Grit', you will see footage that displays students in the college being courageous, passionate and brave. This will then apply for the remaining letters.
When the letters appear on screen, they will appear in white writing, on top of a customised purple background. I have chosen this idea because these are the two colours that makes the college recognisable.

The Treatment
My idea for the 30 second ident for CTK is to promote their ethos. Their ethos is 'graces', and every letter is abbreviated. Graces is short for Grit, Respect, Assurance, Curiosity, Endeavour, and Self-Control. The way I wanted to incorporate this into an ident was by giving each letter, along with appropriate footage that matches each letter a total of 4-5 seconds.

The Budget
The Budget is key to the production this will cover props lighting equipment, Transport, locations and other. the food is one of the most consistent budget payments as this will cover lunch breaks transport will have a budget and the props.

Transport: £40 to London, on site transport free oyster.
Food: £150 cover all client needs
Props: £20 maximum
Camera and Lighting Equipment: free student project.

This will be the budget costs as everything else will be free as this is a collage project and do not have access to mainstream companies to help filming such as Sky, ITV and Channel 4.

The budget will worked with a team to fill the profit equally this way it is organized and we can keep track of all of our resources we have used. locations are free as we are filming.

potential problems with each

The first and main problem we may face is the the way we will have to manage our time especially because we are producing a stop motion ident. the way we are going to make sure that this doesn't make it a problem by setting out a clear and organized shooting schedule within deadlines on when each ident will be shot and edited .

the second problem we may face is with our location, our location is based is the school because we want the viewers to see what they are buying into or in this case signing up for. the location will be full of students going to and from their lesson and trying to to film in tight corridors with people going up and down it can become a health and safely problems but we have set out to shoot while most people are in their lessons and not much is going on so that you can capture a few students.
Designs
Designs we will use will be based on the theme and the idea created by the director, as our theme is CTK Graces we will use a series of colours that represent Christ the King, which are white and purple.
Idents will also be based off of the different element of the sixth form for
example, performing arts. This will tie in with the idents because the subjects contain element that will grab the attention of our target audience.
The energy behind the idents will represent the college as well as the graces, the design of them will represent passion, bravery and courageousness which was spoken about in the initial idea of the idents.
The style of ident we will be using is 3D animation and recorded footage as it will give the college more of a professional and stylistic look which will appeal to our primary audience as well as a secondary audience (parents of the students).

Role Assignemnt: Ident production

I specialize in cinematography and working hard to capture what the viewers are interested in. The ident production will be split for seasons and work to capture the creative themes which make and hold up the suite of ident which we hope to create but I have also had experience in other roles for example assistant director this is what I worked on for the music video production as I assisted the director with his tasks but my main strength is cinematography e.g. photographer, Filming even editing is something that I have wanted to perfect.

The reason why I would like to focus on camera work is so I can work with my team to capture every thing that the ident is showing to the audience and why this is necessary. I want to do the camera work as I like the creativity but I am happy to be assigned assistant director as long as it helps the team as my team are very creative in other fields such as music it is ok for them to take this role as they are creative individuals as well and have good aspiration for the current brief we are facing.

The brief we have is very straight forward and it helps the team to understand the basis for what we want to change our client has been very generous and has tried to give us as music space for creativity as possible while still working within the lines of the brief. As we know that the team can work with this brief we can start to plan out the phases and work on our idents. this will give us time later to edit the work we have made to a suitable standard as the assistant director can work on help for the director and is self explanatory the other roles are harder as they will be finding.

  • Areas to Film
  • Health and Safety
  • Filming
  • Editing
  • Reccy's
  • Transport
With all of this organized we can then work in a flow to create these idents to the best of our abilities this will allow us to get an idea of what the idea is how will we make it and the resources we need for example Lighting and Props food is also important as the crew will need launch breaks for particular times within the day. This keep us on track to finish the project on time without any delays. This is why I want to take the role of the cinematography as this will increase my skills when filming as my knowledge around this has made me understand the more professional values this project will teach me and the new experiences of filming professional idents.

Mood Board Annotations

Task 1 B and 1C

Competition: this is were a client can hire a media company to set up a competition this can involve award ceremonies like the short film festival the advantages of this is it helps out with the company's publicity. this is one of the most unusual briefs as it is left to chance wether who wins the award. this will therefore spark more competition between different companies like film companies for example Lions Gate and Dreamworks or Disney Pixar.

Tender: A tender brief will contain a budget within the brief and a project that is set out for the client this makes it easier for the client to work around. This can also be set in a variety of briefs which makes it helpful for the client. this can also be an advantage because it give the client more room to work around there creativity.

Negotiated: This brief is self explanatory initially the client gives a brief with a list of instruction but the other clients can negotiate around the brief working more creatively this can make the production more successful as it is grasping its target audience more directly and this will allow them to be more interested in the production this applies to everything such as films music TV series and more this is to hit there target audience while working within the guidelines of the brief.

Contractual: This is a media company which has hired a client to complete a number of tasks these briefs have a fee that the client can agree to this can be more flexible for the client. an advantage of this would be the fact the it is easier for the client to the set deadline.

Informal: An informal brief is very straight forward this is a task received by a client that can be worked on with a team and completed to a fast and proffesional standard. the good thing about this is that it gives you more freedom to work and you do not have to do everything on your own as you have a team to help you with the brief the client has given you.

Disadvantages to this are that the group have very mixed ideas and may want to use theres you may not understand there idea and this can cause a setback for dates which can have a bad impact on the brief.

Commission: This is when a large media company hires an independent company to fill a brief this can take quite a long time but it is extremely efficiant in creating a high value project the bad thing about this is that the independent company may not like the idea and they might not want to help because the brief the media companies have given them may not appeal to them. this is one of the biggest disadvantages briefs have as the idea may not be appealing to the ones wanting to fill the brief.

Cooperative: This is quite similar to the Commission brief however this is two companies which are working together to complete the brief rather than an independent company the advantages are that this can be quite effective in terms of a large scale brief. Disadvantages are that arguments can collide the majority of the time as one of the company may want an other idea that they want.

Formal: This is when the client outlines the brief to whoever filling it to work and produce a specific product for them to is relevant to media as well as the media industry has mayfield were making a product comes into play e.g. Album covers. This has a massive flaw though as the contract may not be legally binding so essentially they do not have to pay you and you are doing free work for your client however an advantage would be the amount of free space you have to create this product although it can limit creativity a lot.

Technical specifications

rule of thirds were used in are music video to keep a professional look for our client. this was also to make movement of the production more smooth this way it would have fit with the song and they would have functioned as one. this is also because the song is quite relaxing the idea was to make sure that the song fit with the video. Lip syncing was one of are main concerns and this was because of the choreography aspect of the video as this did not follow a narrative we had to make sure lip syncing worked with the performance.

Audience

Audience research was so important as we were making a hip hop video we were targeting a young adult audience. we had to make sure that the video appeals to them. We also had to look at other artists like.
  • Hope Dealers
  • Guvna B
These were the main artists which we got inspiration from for the main production and we looked at how they appealed to there target audience this was use of violence and the idea the main artist having a sort of gangster background this appeals to the younger audience as it gives them someone to look up to. We had to be careful when making the music video as this was the main product. We played it safe so we created a choreography.

A suite of Idents are a slideshow of Idents that are all related to each other in one way or another. One example of suites would be channel 4. Channel 4 uses the same Idents which are catered to particular times when they have the 4 forming into shape this will be in a particular time of day like morning mid day or night time and these Idents take different aspects of the world at different times like mid day they would show urban surroundings or a farm this can demonstrate hard work. When the night time ident comes on in the evening this demonstrates night life and a fun atmosphere which people can relate to this is why having a suite of idents is so important and not only that but the channel 4 is the only channel with an Ident suite. BBC also has a suite of ident which are centred around the world.
http://www2.tv-ark.org.uk/channel4/2004.html
Here is a link of all channel 4 Idents which are new and old these are all set in different locations as they are allocated to specific shows and gives viewers insight in what they are about to watch.

This ident is designed for a historical ident look and clearly shows elements of an ancient world this ident would be used particularly when a documentary is about to come on or something historical this is why its important to have suite of idents as you are able to get across to all of your viewers and give them more of an in depth look of what they are about to see. this would also be shown in the day time maybe morning to afternoon as the ident is still set in the day time and not the night time .

This is only of the idents and its very similar to the other channel 4 idents as they all have the same 4 which forms into shape and creates a 4.

In this ident is is set at a motel at night time this is probably related to Tv shows that would be shown at night time like reality TV programs and other programs like comedies this is represented through the lively activity of everybody in the evening. This is what Channel 4 has tried to capture in this ident this is because of the fun lifestyle they have tried to use to make there channel look more appealing and fun to watch its also quite interesting just from the colours and the look of the motel as it has an intricate design. the colour are very well balanced and work well in this ident this is because of the lights and the dark background which contrasts with the light.

Wednesday, 15 February 2017

Contractual brief this is a brief that is set out in front of the client like most briefs this will help the client to understand what they want from this work however they will have to sign a contract on agreeing with the particular work which they have been given.

Competition briefs are different to most briefs the reason being is because they are left open to any other company to take and fill the brief this in itself creates competition for a company that it not carrying out this brief this will mean they will end up on the losing end of a particular corporation this is very strong with gaming companies as they will try to make as many games to appeal to different audiences when there are open briefs like this it is vital to participate in these briefs.

An informal brief can be set out like most briefs like you would think a meeting. In actual fact the client has to work with the boss to carry out the brief with them this is why they would have a meeting so that they could arrange a plan to carry out so that they can fulfill the brief and they don't have to sign contracts either it's straight into working to complete the brief.

Negotiated briefs are seen more often than you think a negotiated brief is when two or more companies pitch in to create a pitch for idea that they can work on this is particular see with call of duty were different companies will work to create a different call of duty. However it's not just games this is seen in but also films.

This brief is just straight forward a company will set out the appropriate rules and steps provided for the specific clients to carry out this can be for film and just any company like furniture companies and miscellaneous companies. The only thing is that the clients have to agree with what they are given to carry out the brief

Idents keep a relative suite of idents because of its theme the reason for this is because idents may appeal to different audiences depending on the nature of the TV channel the reason why these idents keep a similar design is because of its meaning such as world wide or comedy BBC used circles for the idents to represent the world and to show a cycle of continuity this was BBC main selling point this is what made there channels intriguing. Were as other channels like channel 4 will just keep there 4 as it morphs from the landscape this is to show that for is with us were ever we go and is very accessible this also realities to film 4 as well.

Normally with the creation of idents there are brand loyalties and identities these are to target there audience and to put a name for there idents souch as e.g. BBC, channel 4 and film 4 these will all have a logo this logo will determine who owns
The rights to the content that the BBC put out such a doctor who on Netflix will have BBC logo on it to show who owns the right to this program doing this it evolves brand loyalty which brings a loyal audience into the fan base of BBC and this is another word for loyal customers.

Idents have to give off different emotions to separate themselves from other channels which can lead to competition this is called tone by having a tone for your idents you can give the idents an identity this sets a vibe for the idents and can make you feel different emotions while watching them this give off the identity of the channel and makes it so It is easier to understand the channel.

Appealing to target audience is important because this will determine who your main source of viewers will be so to target your audience you have to have the theme and tone that will appeal to them this can be sports, gaming and other things such as comedy and for girls reality TV so content
will determine who your audience will be as well this is what you will build your target audience around as you will get increased views for a channel if the nature of it appeals to them.

Re branding will make an ident more successful for a number of reasons. Firstly the ident re-branded will appeal to more people which will make the channel more successful this could be because of more realistic nature of content appeals to more people like BBC or it could just be change in design. Secondly the ident might be trying its best to keep up with common trends this will appeal to younger audiences so you will see something like this is BBC three.

Limitations and opportunities

Limitations are what limits an ident this can be color the logo size logo color and the ident size itself some limitations can be used as an advantage though as the ident may have a secondary meaning as if the ident is taking place in another world and they use this by showing vibrant colors. Colour is one of the biggest limitations as there is only one palet with certain colors you can use the reason for this is because bright color can make the ident slightly blurry and this can potentially ruin the ident.

opportunities can be a good thing to help the ident reach larger height maybe unintentionally as well on opportunity is brand loyalty, brand loyalty is an opportunity because it draws in it target audience and make it so that it can build a small community who stand by the channel and watch it at a continued rate others can be re branding of content. Branding of content can bring a ident to a new level and it can also fit in with common trends.

Limitations: There are some limitations to this ident such as the bright colors make the ident look gimmicky and this can throw off its target audience as this is MTV color. The problem with animation is that it can be consistent but hard to make consistent because of the use of cartoons it is harder to get across a tone or feel as you are watching this. This is MTV classic and uses idents that would appeal more to younger audiences. As this is classic it brings nostalgia but the idents here are not designed for older audiences which would listen to that music but it is encouraging younger people to listen to older music which is a limitation because they are ultimately cutting off older audiences although they can still watch this the branding of this channel clearly shows that this is made for the younger audience.

Opportunities: this has many opportunity the reason why is the is so much that they can get across with animation like the resembling of beats clearly shows that the channel is music instantly were as using stock motion and live action can take longer to get there channel across but one opportunity is resolution with animation it is easy to change what happens in an animation just by editing it however this can also make the ident ultimately look worse or look better depending on the level of animation. This leads to resolution improving animation allows the ident to be viewed at 1080p which will take up the length the full rectangle which the TV takes up which allows a more professional viewing and catches out the viewers eye this informs of the channels identity and brings in higher views because of this. Another opportunity is brand loyalty although they are branding this for a younger audience they can also get views from adults as this will allow them to feel nostalgia and give them the more likelihood to enjoy viewing the channel.

Limitations: The ident with the chameleon is limited this is because it only use one frame and thats with the sky logo which just says sky this is a limitation in itself although the logo is use of typography it also limits other typography so this eliminates creativity the colour is limited to only two because of the scene of the ident the colors in this ident are very specific as they fit within the rules of the palet of idents so this dosent distort sound. typography is a very hard design aspect to use this is because if you use too much typography the ident can effectively become boring were as too little typography makes it harder to understand the uses of the ident. Sky and other channels by creating there logos with forms of typography such as Sky, BBC, ITV, Film 4 and other channels. This why it is easier for people to understand the uses of the typography as it becomes a trademark. Therefore when the audience sees the channel logo it is almost instantly rememberable. This is why typography is such a limitation.

Opportunities: The creation of tone is very important for any ident production as the tone gives the ident its emotions and gives the audience feelings about the ident's image the tone can also be related to the type of channel and genre of its shows such as film they can have horror themed idents with ghost or other things that can give viewers different emotions the tone can be dark, happy, Normal or it could be otherworldly it can also be humorous. this is the tone and why this is an opportunity as it is much easier to direct your audience to. encouraging the target audience is the most important thing for idents as this gives your target audience more fan loyalty which is another opportunity the best thing with ident is appealing to the target audience this will relate to them. This will increase the channels popularity therefore more people will listen watch it.

Limitations: Size is incredibly important as the ident logo has to be the correct size otherwise the ident will not work as you can see for ITV they have placed there ident centre left for each of the idents this is because the ident colours can contrast with the logo in other positions which makes the ident logo look to bright or too dark here is the perfect space as it takes up the most space it can to fill the screen this is one of the biggest limitations as the idents all have to placed centre centre mid, left or right this limits a lot of creativity that could have been implemented in this ident. This also give idents a similar appearance this can become quite boring for the audience as this can drag on for them re branding then comes into effect and ill explain why.

Opportunities: Re Branding can be an opportunity in many ways firstly it may look better than the older idents but the main reason is to rebrand the channel the reason channels would want to re brand there channels is to re invent them so that they appeal to more people. The reason they may do this as well may be to change corporate identity. This way they appeal to a different target audience or they may appeal to the same target audience but they may have done this to create a new suite of idents this is because the others were perhaps too old like I mentioned or they are keeping up with current trends this is another reason why they would create a new suite of idents to re brand there channel.

Limitations: this ident has a lot of limitations the first one is that this ident is actually a cartoon clip from the Simpsons however this is actually an ident this is appealing to a younger audience as it is showing the simpsons other audiences may not like this as they may feel that it is immature another problem with this is the brand identity it is a bit difficult to understand the brand identity of sky 1 through the simpsons and other people may get confused at this. Another big problem with this ident is the colour since its used simpsons for the ident everything is very colourful but they have had to work within a palet this limits some if not a lot of creativity within this ident and it is hard to identify the brand as it is not using Sky's logo this one limitation which is the low amount of typography no logo has been used

Opportunities: This ident has good opportunities as this program appeals to a lot of people so using this for an ident creates brand loyalty. Simpsons is one of this channels most watched shows so it is understandable to make Simpsons a trademark for the channel TV Ident's it uses other opportunities like the target audience using the target audience by using the Simpsons will increase the viewer base dramatically increasing channel views and more. the way the ident uses actual programs to advertise the channel make it more entertaining and interesting to see more of the Simpsons.

Timeline

In the ident above we see that BBC is taking different steps in creating there idents instead of representing the world through drawn circles they used an air balloon as a metaphor to represent the world and as the air balloon travels its a clever way to say that the world travels as well so this reminds people that we are in the cycle of life and moving forward so this ident appeals to everybody as everyones trying to move forward in there lives. This ident is specifically targeted to be the world as the air balloon is shaped to look like the world as it has the continents on the air balloon. this is why this is supposed to be referencing the world

The BBC was not the only broadcasting station to have made idents other channels came longhand produced there own idents this was because of the branding identity. this was very important for MTV as well as there channel mainly showed off music videos so this was one of the first idents that were particularly different to most of the other idents. Idents that were made by MTV were normally related to music and time as the clock is shown in this ident this is one of the first idents which were designed to actually entertain. as a sort of short film but other channels also had appealing idents but the idea is that they were made for different audiences.

As you can see this is the first idents ever made for BBC this was the first ident to try and capture the picture of the word by having circular shapes in which to resemble the world this started as two wings to resemble flight and it also had BBC written at the Bottom other than the ident having no schedulaing this stated the channels name and its identity which was formal and intellectual.
This was a major breakthrough for idents as it was the first of its kind and it gave BBC an identity. this was the first step for BBC to become one of the biggest broadcasting stations of all time this was the beginning of a series of idents that would be a worldwide theme as all of BBCs idents would take the idea of a circle as the world.

Blood Sweat and Determination-Sky Sports idents.

Theme

This ident has a training theme blood sweat and determination this is aspiration for younger audiences to try and become the best. This is the main theme. Why I wanted to focus this theme was because the idea of being the best applies to a lot of people and it will have a great impact for people who want to do sports when they are older.

Tone

The tone of are idents is very unique as it is quite dark not in a metaphorical way but the general way as it is dark in the images to show determination and strife. We used a urban area with houses for a reason this is because we wanted to show that not just famous people can work to be the best but also normal everyday working people can try to become the best as well.

Brand Identity

The way which Brand identity work with are ident is that we have used the sky sports logo which is sky sports within a blue and red box. Reasons why we did this was because we wanted to have a lot of impact with are ident and draw viewers into the logo another way you can tell from this is the different physical activities which take place in this ident.

Brand Loyalty

This can appeal to a group of young audiences and have a strong impact as it will aspire to them to make them become the best this is were are brand loyalty will come from as are channel is based on sky sports we wanted to have a strong role for our ident this is how it would work when getting brand loyalties.

Task 1.B Design and Purpose of idents

Purpose = creation of tone, creation of corporate identity, appeal to target audience, Encouragement of brand loyalty.
Design = Typography, size, colour department or to ensure visibility, Aspect ratio resolution

Animal Planet Ident

Purpose: Ident's can give off many different purposes some are more unusual than others like this animal planet ident. in this we see a river with clear water and a shot of a type of seal this is short but it makes you wonder what the seal was and why it is there this is how its purpose comes into affect it is the mystery that makes this ident so effective and most channels like Animal Planet, Discovery and Eden have ident's like this its to capture your need for discovery and this is the purpose of these ident's it makes you wonder what stuff is out there and where it is, this therefore encourages you to watch more and probably stay with the channel as it builds brand loyalty.

Design: Design for this ident is interesting instead of having a logo at the middle right hand corner or left the logo appears at the end in a animated style like it is almost as if it is introducing you to a new episode of a show as far as design goes it doesn't use much of it except for the logo but the ident does something different though instead of just taking single camera shots there are two shots one of the seal swimming towards the camera and another that is a close up of the seal its almost as if it draws you in by using the seal as an approach. Space and time are short for this ident this is only 16 seconds long and that is all the time they need to make a quick ident this is also a ident that is used when a program is about to start. Segmentation is what this is called and due to the marine life in the ident we can tell that the program will be made about something similar.

Dave X Ray Machine Ident

Purpose: The purpose of this ident is simple it is to entertain it uses comedy functions by having a cat in a X Ray machine this appeals to all audiences as it is just playful and doesn't have any violence or suspense whatsoever that is why this is so effective its purpose is to entertain. This also gives another purpose and like the animal planet ident this too gives wonder to the audience this is because the audience are wondering why there is a cat in an airport in a X-Ray machine.

Design: the design for this ident is interesting they have been able to keep the logo right hand side by using the luggage try and this adds effect as shows of the channels identity which is gimmicky as there is a cat sitting in a luggage tray. the design is also interesting because they have used dark colours like the floor the walls and the x ray machine. the one thing that is interesting is the cat as the cat stands out to the audience.

Example three

Purpose: Purposes of this ident are to quickly brand the channel after a show is about to begin they can also mention what show is coming on as well this is a long ident so it can talk a bit about the schedule of the different shows which are going to start later on in different times. This ident uses animation. This is because it is supposed to give off the vibe of a humorous atmosphere you could also say that this ident is informal as it would not appeal to older audiences. this ident appeals to younger people because of the use of animation.

Design: Like i mentioned before with the animation one of this idents greatest designs is, its animation. This ident unfolds into a logo this logo takes up the screen and since the background is black this allows them to experiment with different colours such as green white a purple. purple is the most significant colour the reason why purple is the most significant is because it is BBC threes main choice of colour and that is what they brand there channel with the purple suits BBC Three for a number of reasons. Firstly the colour represents a sort of party lifestyle and creates a idea that purple is not only very modern but it can also be very retro as well with the use of neon purple.

Example four

Purpose: This ident has a lot of hidden purposes. One of these purposes is that it tells you that 4 is worldwide as you can see the ident is in Tokyo and the buildings forms into a 4 this has strong impact as the building are actually shapes similar this so it almost says to you that 4 has been here the whole time. One of its other purposes is the use of segmentation. This ident is highly effective with segmentation as they make there idents in day time as well. this ident is obviously dark so it resembles night life to the audience.

Design: The design of this ident is interesting the reason for this is because the screen size fits the whole ident and can have so many pixels or frames per second. Another thing is colour they have used lots of creative colours like black, red, orange, green and blue in this ident this is to give a lively vibe as the colours are vibrant and work with the surrounding area. This ident does not have much typography either other than the names on the surrounding buildings but the only typography we see is the 4. the four is created by the buildings in area.

Example five

Purpose: This ident is very effective the reason for this is because of the nostalgia of fans as it talks about the new seasons of red dwarf. this ident is heavily focused on brand loyalty as it speaks to the fans to get them excited for the new red dwarf series which has been released. this also has a strong use of rebrand as you could see from the cat ident before this ident uses new stuff like animation. This not only appeals to middle aged audiences but it also appeals to younger audiences as well such as 16 to 18 year olds this is why the purpose of the channel is strong it is promoting red dwarf which creates nostalgia.

Design: The design for this ident is interesting the reason for this is the use of colour and the animation as you can see from the owl and the moose it has the H on there head which is also referencing one of the characters in red dwarf but other than that the colours are very simple they have used gold for the picture frames and they have a dark background for all there idents. Typography however is very prominent in these idents they use a lot of text for an ident such as hash tag red dwarf and the main logo which is Dave. this is seen throughout most of there idents and creates more nostalgia as it is a build up for the new series 10 of red dwarf. The resolution is very effect they have the ident take up the whole screen and the idents are also very clear and not blurry this ident can work effectively at 1080p and higher as the animation does not use much to create and make the have more of an impact. As they have the logo in black and white they are able to make use of placing the logo in the middle of the screen the colours used in this ident are not bright either there very warm colours that don't require a lot to have in on there idents so it dose not make the screen brighter than it should be.

idents notes

Idents are a advertisement system used for particular TV channels such as BBC MTV and more it is a short animated or stop motion video which advertises the channel and set the vibe for viewers weather it be funny or scary this will be reflected by an animatics which makes them very effective. Animation is used a lot and can be very helpful depending on the channel it's assigned for e.g. Nickelodeon is a channel for kids this is were animation would heavily impact the audience as animation can be more appealing for younger viewers.

Stop motion is interesting because this is used in a lot of channels like BBC and ITV this is because an older audience will be watching these channels and this will appeal them due to the fast pace cutting of the different shots this is also quite gimmicky as it doesn't look all to real so this can be used for comedy purposes and drama it also depends on sound and setting.

Idents have to be done in a certain way and this is for a good reason they can't be too long otherwise they can be boring and turn your audience away so to avoid this is to make your idents within the appropriate time span of 20 to 30 seconds this way you won't only bore your audience but you can appeal to your genre appropriately. Branding is extremely.
