- Explain more in detail add more to your work to gain the higher grade and improve your work. This is the first target to acquire.
- Explain the use of the various camera angles this will be the way of getting a merit and it is vital to get a good grade when this task is setting stone.
- Try and aim for the description if possible and make sure that the angles you are talking about are clear and understandable.
- Make sure you finish writing about all the camera angles and don't leave any blank this will give you the highest possible grade and it would also make your work a lot more understandable (Primary Target).
- When describing make sure that you are describing the right thing and make sure not to focus on this as it will waste our time and set you back marks. When possible read over your work and see what needs amending.
- Make sure that you use links of videos and in-beds to back up any points that you pick up this will give you the higher marks and you must do this to pass (Primary Target).
- When you use a video make sure you explain the effectiveness of it and try to make it so that it qualifies with the merit criteria so in this case do not describe, explain (Primary Target)
- Make sure that grammar in sentences and punctuation is clear this way the work you produce will be a lot easier to read and this also opens doors to the higher grade. (Minor Target).
- Make sure in all of the tasks you complete make sure you follow the correct order of describe, Explain and then work onto the distinction. (Adept Target).
- Make sure you have good knowledge on what you are talking and try not to make small mistakes on what your talking about for examle calling things incorrect names and so on. (Adept Target).

Planning for music video my music video will take an alternate approach as I want to set the start of the video in a bar when this starts then the characters meet and take whisky shots this is shot from them in a first person perspective as it is showing how they see the world the video continues on as they are walking down the street and bumping into pedestrians because they are drunk. This then leads to them splitting up and getting lost this is the middle of the the end and it shows them doing different things like walking into gangs and this is the end middle part of the music video the ending simply is them finding each other again and walking home were one of them wakes up the next morning and appears to just be having a bad dream until he checks his phone to find them drunk in the road and other places were my video comes to a halt and stops.
I chose to take this approach as this is my first music video and I don't like doing anything too ambitious the reason for this is I only he a certain amount of resources to create this music video this means I can't do too much with special effects as I only have green screen at my disposal I don't like using green screen as I find it looks to fake and it wouldn't look right with the video I am trying to create. Secondly money is harder to come by as we are just students and not working at this particular time which make filming in nice locations harder.
I think my idea will be exceptable to explore as I haven't tried to find locations that are overwhelming to use or have to pay a substantial amount to use. Equipment won't be too much of a problem as it does sound like a go pro would be involved and I'm going to use just a normal camera and use over the shoulder shots to suffice for a first person view and this would be a good first attempt at trying something I haven't used before and is not overly ambitious this is also effective as people don't view visuals in music videos in first person as often.
I think my idea is suitable to be worked with in a group and I can help in any way I can my main professions are in Camera operations and Editing I enjoy editing as I can mole a piece of work to the best of my ability but this what I have to pitch about my idea and this were I end my music video idea.

For my how to guide I made sure that I was able to get the correct theme for my video this is because my video is of the rock genre this means that the location I used had to be lively and not just that but slightly bright. What I did was upload my footage to final cut when I uploaded this footage to final cut I then decided to cut it down and get rid off all the bad parts of the footage. I wanted to try and keep as much footage as I could this is because I only needed 10 seconds of footage so I took advantage of the footage.
Secondly was organizing the footage what I did was I cut up the footage this way I was able to make sure the lip syncing was correct with the track that is were I took my side close ups and I added them with the close ups and mid shots once I had done this I had to re listen to the footage to make sure that the work which I produced sounded good enough.
When I was done with organizing the main footage then I had to get screen footage for the background the screen footage I was able to obtain was from shutter stock when I got the footage to shutter stock I then had to save this and import it to final cut this was simple enough but when I did this the footage behind me was too bright so therefore I asked for assistance from this I found out how to change the background effects this was the brightness as well
What I found was the background, Lighting and darkness could be changed so what I did was make the main background darker but then I made it so the lights that were on in the background had a flare effect this is because the song I used had a very lively nature so I what I did was make the Lights brighter this gave off more of a vibe and made my video suit the genre.

Assessment 3c Camera angles and Movements
Track Away: Track away are used in shots to follow someone this angle is made so that it seems that you are following the main topic of the music video this can be anything such as the artist or anything metaphorical. Track away are used in other ways as well this can be for any genre such as rap, rock, Pop and any other genre. In fact this is one of the most used camera angles in any music videos and the reason this is, is because the angle makes you feel apart of the music video.
An example of this would be an example of the Verve Bitter Sweet Symphony. Entirely this song is a track away and this brings you through the entire video this is actually one of the best examples of track away there is.
Canted Angles: Canted angles are used to give off a specific vibe they can be used for different purposes these are to fit the grimy vibe that particular genres of music fill out this can be Rap, Heavy Metal and more the reason canted angles work so well in these particular genres is because it makes the distorted feature as if the music video was in a different dimension but Heavy Metal and Rap music are two completely different genres and will use the canted angle for completely different reasons Rap will express the criminal side of life due to gangs drugs and gun violence and they will use the canted angle to express and show the justice system turn on its head were heavy metal music expresses the dark nature of things e.g. Hell and other dark things this how they will use the canted angle the reason they do this is to appeal to there target audience and it expresses there life to the audience and how they feel when they act in a criminal nature.
Arc: Arc is were the camera travels around the subject this being the artist and or something else this shot is normally used in an opening of a video. this is normally an angle to introduce the idea of the video this gives a feeling of a feeling and it also creates a build up to the video. this can be used to give an artist a mysterious image this draws the audience to the music video as it makes the video more interesting to watch the reason why this angle is used to express the theme and idea of the music video by having a strong introduction.
Tilt: Tilted angles are very similar to canted angles these are angles to appeal to specific genres such as rap and the reason I say rap is because this angle gives off a specific dramatic gangster look this can actually be metaphorical to a gang member holding a gun as they are normally stereotyped to hold guns sideways. this makes the video more appealing and people who enjoy that genre. This is purely used
Handheld: handheld camera angles are specifically used in a variety of different genres these genres being rap, hip hop or heavy metal the reason this camera angle is used in these is because it matches the very urban and punk tone which is being a gangster or a heavy metal rock star this also conveys the specific emotions which are taking place in the video this is one other reason why handheld is incredibly useful it gives off the vibe of the video which can either be street gangster or not even that the video itself could just be incredibly grainy.
There is a good reason we don't see much of this in pop or indie and the reason this is, is because these genres are very well cut videos and try to keep there music videos and the quality of them to a professional stranded and not to say handheld isn't professional the problem with this is that it just doesn't appeal to the genres target audience. Pop is directed to younger audiences that are more into romance videos than very grimy atmospheric videos. This is why using these camera angles can not only be good but can also be very dangerous if it is used in the wrong genre this means it makes your video less appealing and it throws people off of your music.
Low angles: Low angles are one of the most important angles in any visual media that being Music videos, Films, TV series even video games low angle in media means power this is focused on the main artist in the music video. using this to make them look powerful this creates a hyper real reality for the artist and as this is being used this makes the artist look powerful for the audience this therefore makes people follow in the footsteps of the artist.
The reason why low angles make the music more impact is because the artist being the centre of attention needs the attention of the. target audience the reason why these angles are so focused on the artist is because this way not only does the artist get recognition but the artists get more money off of sites such as YouTube and more as well as that the hyper reality they make for themselves makes the genre of music more powerful and promotes more creativity.
High angles: High angles are used so often in music videos but not in the way as other people would imagine high angles are purely used with low angles this is to make the main artist take full power of the music video the reason why any high angle is used is to make someone seem as if they are powerless this gives the main artist in any music video more power and builds there image this is the main reason why this angle is used in music videos. this is used in almost most music videos you see and stretches over a length of different genres the reason this is, is to boost the artist image.
Crash Zoom: Crash zoom is a very interesting angle for a music video and it is also very hard to get right as you can mess up the shot or the angle but this is essentially a zoom that suddenly zooms in and then out this is very effective in heavy metal genres when themes such as the devil crop up -in there music this would be one of the perfect times to use this camera angle. this can be used in other genres and platforms such as horror films which makes use of these in depth. the purpose of this is to grip the audiences attention on the artist this will have a powerful effect on the viewer as it shows a strange form of power as it is like being griped by the actual artist.
Eagle eye View: Eagle eye view is a very interesting angle particular in music videos this is because the eagle eye angle is shot from the sky. Music is key for creating particular vibes and these shots makes the video have a very powerful vibe. This then elaborates on the video. As this is more focused into the video now this makes the viewer more attached with the visuals now that there is a vibe people watching the video are gonna have a lot in relation to the video and this is because of the lyrics and visuals. The lyrics and visuals are key and they carry a lot of power in a music video. Reasons why I think that this is such a powerful camera angle is because the camera shot takes the viewer to the sky it is almost as if the music is so lifting that an angle such as this can make you feel very indestructible. There are good and bad things about this angle though. I have already mentioned the good points about this but there are still bad things about pulling off these shots. Number 1 main thing is the expenses this is extremely expensive as the equipment you would need for this would be a drone. Drones can be up to £1'200 to £3'500 for young media technicians this is extremely expensive and you would only use the shot about once or twice in the music video. There are hundreds of music videos that use this angle in there videos and the reason this is, is because it is such a powerful and moving shot that grabs the audiences attention.
This is just one example of an eagle eye angle shot in this video at the start the video is moving into the frame the beginning shot is an eagle eye view this is because this is shot that normally is shown at the start or at the end of a music video. this is a very good introduction to the video not only does it use an eagle eye shot but is also uses a lot of green screen because in the sky there are CGI picture of crows that are flying in the shot so they have carefully mastered a hybrid shot between eagle eye and green screen.
Dolly In: Dolly in is very similar to a track forward or away shot this is normally in film of TV though the dolly in creates an type of atmosphere depending on its angle this may be a grimy environment or a dark theme this can also be used for a fun or joke theme.
Reasons why people use these camera angles in there music videos is because it adds a vibe and creates meaning in the video instead of this being one massive shot take through the whole video the video actually has movement and the audience can understand more what they see and they can relate to this, this is why music videos are so powerful. Relation to the audience is key.

Artist Research
https://youtu.be/hLjdy8nJj0Q
This is a track I was able to obtain from a rock band named Silent Sundays This track is called thin black jeans this track is a rock and roll track with a sort of borderline indie there are many ideas which I can explore for these band members. I thought of an idea which benefit the artists image in many ways as the lyrics just speak of having a good time
My idea is of the band having a night out in the pub drinking and having fun until eventually the band find themselves getting split and then getting lost and encounter different situation that may frighten them or scare them but as the main focus of the song is on genes then this will be referred in the visuals and the camera will focus on the jeans until the end of the song when they find each other again and then all walk back home the ending from this song was inspired by the ending of the Verve Bitter Sweet Symphony were the band find each other and walk away until the camera cuts.
I have emailed the artist and I will ask for permission on wether or not we are aloud to use there songs for a non profitable music this is what I have sent to the Band and awaiting a reply.

How to Beat Edit
This is my guide on how I beat edited the track turn down for what. Firstly I had to upload the footage on to the mac which I would start my beat edit on but from there I decided that I would use all of the footage which included certain segments of The bad takes. Before I even started my beat edit I had to plan ahead first and that is what I did. Secondly from here I did my work by segments checking off certain parts.
Firstly for my beat edit I gathered all the footage on final cut one I had done this I then went on to the angles of camera shots so I could cut to the beat I specially filmed the visuals for a handheld effect to Mach the grimey atmosphere of the track from this point on I looked on shutter stock at the stock footage I could use to make the track more visually appealing for the audience this was also so it did not get boring. One way in which I made it appealing was the pace of the video the pace was very important because the pace of the video was quite fast so to make the video fast pace made the shots move along quicker this way I was able to make it appealing to the audience.
The next thing I did was take apart the footage I had to make sure that the lip syncing didn't overlap in the beat section otherwise it would not look interesting and it would also look silly and unprofessional. Since the beat edit I was working on didn't have much lip syncing I was able to just focus on talent performance this way I was able to edit with ease if I had to edit lip syncing I would have use multi clip in final cut this way I would at least have an easier time lip syncing there was one part that I had to lip sync and that was "Turn down for what". This was easier to time as it was not all of the lyrics which I had to edit this was an easier task because of this.

Task 2B.2 Performance, Narrative, Conceptual
Music videos are formatted specifically for certain target audiences some of these formats relate to the genre of music. This is because it has to fit the mood an example of this is rock music, rock has a very aggressive tone and this is mirrored in performance the performance video of rock shows the true nature of the artist performing and it builds a hyper vibe for the people. This is why performance is so effective it focuses in on the performers and creates a sense of hyper real aggression. This advertises them as well as strange as it is they are selling themselves showing what a live performance looks like and encourages the viewers to see the band live.
The Good thing about this is like what I said it sells the artist and it makes them have a live performance popularity as it makes more people want to see them live and another thing is its very effective in the certain genre of music like I said rock but this is also not effective and I will explain why.
Performance videos are good but they do have down sides the reason this is, is because they don't follow a narrative and this can make the song confusing for the viewer as it is hard for the viewer to view the music video. Live performances can be very passive though they are quite easy to predict what will happen in the performance. They are not interesting as it just shows the ban performing there is nothing happening.
Narrative videos are very interesting the idea of a narrative video is that they tell a story to the audience and it follows the lyrics thus creating what appears to be a short film. Narrative is a very effective way to make your audience enjoy the song this is because the audience can follow the visuals. The visuals are very important in a narrative video as it is making the audience even more interested in the video.
These are not just entertaining but they can also reflect on how life is like today and this draws the audience into the video this is why narratives can be so good for the artist because they are not just building an image but they are also getting people to relate to the actual artists views and how they see the world through the interpretation of music.

Post Modern Styles Task 2b.3
Homage: Homage videos are very interesting as this uses inspiration from something that has already happened such as if someone died and if a building burnt down. This is honouring the memory of what happened and not only that it shows the artists in a better light making them look very respectful thus allowing more people to view there music videos.
Good and Bad things resolve around this as it is a respectful music people many people may not actually know were the reference comes from therefore them not knowing what the song is actually about this may cause confusion and put the viewer off from watching the music. Good things about this it allows the artist to, one pay tribute, two at the same time promote themselves and to also let more people know about them and the situations based on what there music is around.
Intertextuality:
Animation: Animation is a big industry and is almost used in everything such as TV, Films, Advertisements and even music videos animation is primarily use to tell a story a narrative and feature normally an ego of the actual artist a strong example of this is the Gorillaz the Gorillaz are an animated and the most successful band to use animation some music videos from different artists have use animation such as Daft Punk and more.
The good thing is that this is a very intricate piece of work and would normally appeal to a particular target audience such as young teens or even older teens but this is also adds mystery to the artists identity that makes people want to view the videos more due to some of its narrative and intertextuality. This is that it makes the artist look cool and makes people want to capture the themes and identities of these animated characters not only that but the animation is also very good as it uses special effects that grip audiences to the actual video and this too promotes the work of the artist so that the Artist can make a profit off of the video
Bad thing about this is that the viewer may find this to be childish and silly and they may not like animation in general so this effectively dose not appeal that much to older audiences as this makes the artist not only look silly in there eyes but it also stops people from watching there videos so then again people may not like animation.
Allusion: Allusions can be portrayed in different ways the way they do this is by referencing things or places and events in there music videos but not only that they also make a click in the viewers head as if to say I've seen this before. Reference can be obvious or it can be very hard to find and that is were the allusion is coming from its from the viewers mind and as they are viewing the video they are getting more intrigued by the video.
The Bad thing with though is that it can be very confusing if the viewer does not know were the illusion is coming from and that could put the viewer off of the music video so therefore the viewer does, one, not like the video and dose not understand it. Good thing about this is it promotes a lot of creativity between the artist and the history of the world but this also shows the artist in a complex state which shows that the artist may be quite intelligent this makes the viewer intrigued by the video.
parody: Parody videos are videos of the artist appeal to the audience but with a completely different person and they will normally perform in a jokey fashion to entertain the audience this means that more people will view the parody version as this makes the audience experiences happiness as it is funny and entertaining to watch. Bad thing about this is it takes the artists views away as people would rather watch the parody version.
Good thing about this is that the artist gets more popular due to the parody so although ultimately the artist is getting insulted this is also promoting the artist so that when people have watched the parody version they will want to watch the actual music video and see what it is like compared to the parody version of the music video.
Hyper reality: This is one of the most important things that an artists must follow for a number reasons for example it makes the artist look more awesome and inspirational to the viewer as they may be doing something like fighting in the SAS which is not possible for musicians this makes them look powerful to the audience and makes people look up to them and want to be like them. Artists may want to take on roles like being a Gangster which may make them look dangerous and have a criminal past.
There are Bad things about this though some people may find that the artist is being ridiculous and they may not like what they are doing not only that they may actually think that the artists role choices are wrong and that it is ridiculous. Good thing about this is that it puts the artist into a target audience that appeals primarily to them such as a youth audience this makes them look up to the artist as this makes them want to be the artist therefore they will view more of there music videos.
Pastiche: Pastiche is when an artists uses another individual styles of editing and making music videos this can be quite common in music videos as artists are always trying find new and interesting ways to promote themselves but this also build competition. this is also a very creative way to promote creativity across different talents and artists this makes people view not only the artist that has used the same styles but most of the other artists.
The good thing about this is that it promotes the artist and it also make the viewer more intrigued by the styles as they have from something else. Bad thing about this is that the artist may not want another artist to use there ideas and this then decreases the creativity of the music visuals. Example of this is queen-Bohemian Rhapsody.

Task 2b.1
Goodwin uses many different classifications when looking at music videos some music may cater to a certain audience and an example of this would be POP, POP is specifically designed to cater to all audiences and the reason this is true is due to the voyeuristic characteristics of women in music videos. Videos take keys things that are trending with the times such as "twerking" which will be incorporated into the music video.
This isn't just twerking though this is just any sexual themes that boosts the videos popularity this in the process also creates the artists image for the audience an example would be Miley Cyrus as she was a Disney who is now a musician she caters to her audience by keeping up with trends and incorporating them into her music videos which gives her more popularity as she is appealing to a larger audience a video example would be like this.
This video is specifically designed to cater to its target audience which is followed up with growing trends but not only is this is to keep up with consumer needs but this also promotes a lot of competition with different Artists to gain the most profits from fans but this video is also a amplified contextual/performance video and the reason this is, is to advertise to her audience in a live performance so that people may buy tickets to watch the live performance.
Music videos have strong bonds with lyrics and visuals not only is this to tell the story of the song but at the same time it grips the audience as if they are watching a film that they can relate to as this pop genre focuses around there common trend but as the visuals are moving the music is just a melody that follows with the visuals were as now the audience are trying to depict the Narrative or artistic content in the Cinematography.
Record labels may always have specific demands for the artist to make them money this is were trends come into the picture again this may be the artist may have a viral image were the viewer may find very interesting and unusual therefor this creates an environment were the viewer will tell other people about the video thus making it a viral video as the viewers in a way are taking the video into there own hands. Example of this would Aphex Twins come to daddy or Psy Gangnam Style.

Purposes of Music Videos Task 1.B
To sell a Song: When selling a song it is vital that all the fields depending on what the genre is have been covered. Genres may cater to different Target audience such as for teenagers or for an older audience. When selling a song the video has to try to grip the audience so that they can view it more this may encourage the viewer to actually buy the song on iTunes or another consumer platform.
Selling a song is very important especially for a Major artist as the artists as the Artist will only get 10% of the profits made from the video were as the record label will get the rest of the money. Selling a song isn't as bad for an indie artist or a self produced artist as the Self produced artists is entitled to all of the fees he receives from selling the song or through YouTube and the indie Artist will get the same as a major the artist the difference between the two is that
Song on YouTube may get an incredibly large amount due to views on YouTube as every 1000 views is 2 Us dollars. An example of this would be Psy Gangnam Style this is an example of a viral video. Viral videos are designed to make the video spark the internet and during this video get views and this is when the video gains not only its popularity but also the views as well.
Promotion for the Artist: promoting a artists is key for success for not only the artists but the record labels as well this means that artists have to build a strong image to promote themselves to there target audience
Exposure and Expansion Of the Artist: The image of the artist is incredibly important this ties into the artists expansion this video of gang nam style was viral which expanded the artists image
To Sell the Song, Invoke a reaction from the audience: this is one of the best examples of selling a song because this is a viral video it got millions of views on youtube if not billions this therefore was way of selling the song this therefore sparked his career and this is why this is the best examples of a viral video it is also very high budget for what was in it.
Selling an image: Artists sell there image many different ways as you can see in the video his artist image is very strange and uses lots of effects that aren't normally used in normal music videos this artist is very strange in the video as you can see and uses many strange locations in the music video to create the craziest image for itself not only to grab the audiences attention but this is also to make money from synergy such as parody videos and more as this is viral got billions of views this created the artists appearance extremely quickly this way growing a large fan base as quick as possible.
Indie bands in the music video industry have more freedom with what they want to do the reason for this is because the artist in there video is allowed to promote themselves in the way they feel unlike major labels that have to follow a strict guideline with there producer indie labels can show off more of there creativity with there music like in this Radiohead music video this would appeal heavily to a specific target audience like teens and young adults. The budget for creating indie label music videos is a lot cheaper for a number reasons firstly there isn't as much going on in an indie music video rather than a major label music video. Distributing the music video for this is fairly straight forwards as well the music can get released on ITunes, YouTube, released on TV through MTV but one problem unlike self made artists or produced there videos do not get released onto sound cloud which a lot of people listen to which sets this back from being more acknowledgeable.
This music is very different from the other you know just by looking at this music video it has a much higher budget and not only that as they are a major label band its a lot harder to do what they want creatively as the producer helps to create the artist image in there ways using the genre like pop in this music video there in space but what they have done is used green screen which is very expensive as for every hour you have to pay to use. A good thing about these music videos is they keep up with common trends at the time and they appeal to a much younger audience that will sink hours into watching it a the views on YouTube are incredibly high which make it a successful video but this doesn't have as much independence as an indie label has in fact indie label bands get paid more for the money they receive were as the major labels don't.
Self produced artists have much harder time getting recognition for there music videos for a number of reasons firstly it is a lot harder for them as they are competing with so many people this put them at a disadvantage as there music will not be listened to another thing that's bad with being a self produced artist is that they don't have that much money to go and make a music video for there song so this automatically makes them less popular. A good thing about being a self produced artist though is that they have a much wider range for them to show off there creativity this can be with there music or even if they do make music videos they can make the music video with no one to tell them otherwise they distribute there music onto sound cloud which is one of the biggest sites on the internet for releasing unsigned artist content and they can appeal easier to there target audience as the audience for sound cloud are mainly rap fans who are into Hip Hop and Grime so it is easier to work with.

ROCK Comparison 2.A
In nirvana come as you are the music consists of depictions of the main artist swinging from a chandler and his house is flooding all around him. There is a dog with a anti scratch color and a very grainy transition between the artist and the dog.
In the start of the video there is a gun sinking to the bottom of the sea and in his lyrics he is describing how he does not have a gun.
This music video clearly uses rock conventions due to the grainy content which is shown in the video.
This music video has a link between the visuals and the lyrics as the character the main artist is shown lip syncing in the music video. this is because of the amplification that is used in the video the reason this is hyper real or been amplified is because in this video his house is flooding around him which shows some symbolism to what is actually happening to him.
Arctic Monkeys Do I wanna Know: This is different to nirvanas song in many different ways firstly this music video does not feature the artist were as the nirvana track does this makes the nirvana video more real but the arctic monkeys video extremely hyper real. The arctic monkeys video is also completely animated were as the nirvana one is not.
In the arctic monkeys video it does not have lip syncing were as the Nirvana video does have lip syncing this makes the nirvana not only narrative but it is also slightly performance. Arctic monkeys video is left to the viewers to decipher for themselves.
Although the narrative is confusing and a bit difficult to follow we can still work out from the visuals and the lyrics that this is a story about romance between a pair who care about each other were as the other videos are completely different this video depicts a story where the Nirvana Visuals try to tell you the story and this has no similarity's to Metallica as Metallica is actually a sub genre of rock music and they normally consist of live performance videos.
Metallica Hardwired: In this track it is completely different to the previous two were it uses just a performance this video is just to advertise the band in a live performance so that people will buy tickets to see a live concert. This music video also shows them screaming and there is also a flashing transition to make the mood seem intense for the audience.
This music video is clearly using the typical rock conventions as in the video you can see them with guitars and drum kits playing live. In other rock songs they still might follow some sort of narrative but will normally be composed of guitars and a strong use of instruments being used. This is a heavy rock genre and the reason this is, is because of the song and the lyrics but like I mentioned before the intensity of the actual video.
This is not similar to the arctic monkeys as this does not consist of a romantic animated narrative it is just a heavy metal performances this slightly similar to Nirvanas track as they both use strong uses of lip syncing in each video the only differences are that Nirvanas track is more of a performance narrative were as the Metallica track is just pure performance to advertise them in a live performance and get more money.

Task 1.B
Duke Dumont: In this song won't look back this music video consist of comically shot robbery this video has three grown adults robbing people with old people masks and pogo sticks. This is very funny and yet eierre because of the masks that they wear they are getting chased by a police officer on a police scooter.
This video doesn't have any sexual themes such as twerking or other sexual themes. This video does appeal to a lot of people for a very good reason this is because is relates to very popular TV series themes e.g. Breaking Bad, Prison Break and many more even though it doesn't have the same content of these TV series it also has the same vibe and this relates the audience to the video and this is what makes the song interesting for the audience.
Even though the Artist doesn't appear in the video for what we know as they are all wearing masks this does reflect on the artist maturity which is very comically based as it is just men robbing corner shops with pogo sticks this represents the artist in a very mysterious way as it views him as anonymous or an unknown entity.
Arctic monkeys: Do I wanna Know: In this music video the Artist is not shown in the video as it is a long animation and this is a conceptual video as the video shows the sound waves moving to the bass and the guitar and it eventually breaks down into a short animation and the visuals cut to the beat of the song. this is a more artistic way of showing the differences between the performance and narrative of it but not only that this video is amplified making it more hyper real for the audience.
This makes the look more artistic and although this isn't a performance video this still is more effective as it makes the viewer think of the style of this band and adds more mystery to see them live so although they are not making a performance video they are still making themselves seem interesting to view in live audience.
In the video as the beat cuts to visuals the video then gathers a momentum or a rhythm and this makes the video more appealing to the audience.
Hypnotize: In this track it features what appears to be two gangsters on a boat with a group of women in bikinis gambling were as a group of helicopters are trying to capture them. This video is incredibly hyper real as it depicts the artist as a gangster and not only that they are being chased by the military as well which from this we can tell they are notorious and that is the name of the artist The Notorious B.I.G
This Video is also amplified the reason for this is because they are singing on a driving boat which would be very hard to do in real life and probably wouldn't happen they also do the exact same thing later but in a car this 1video is interesting because it follows a strong narrative which is almost exactly like a short film. This makes the artist look awesome and encourages the target audience to want to be like him.
One In A million: In this track of R&B it uses a dance Choreography which has a rhythmic montage element to it the video also uses Lip syncing and it also uses small special effects this video is also hyper real due to the fact of the special effects when they wave there arms there is a glow that shimmers off of them.
This video is also a bit Amplified which means that the events taking place in this video is exaggerated to an extent but this sells the artist image and this video is not only narrative but it also uses some aspects of performance due to the Lip Syncing in the video and the dance choreography.
This video doesn't have any sexual themes such as twerking or other sexual themes. Timeline Task 1.A
What was innovative/important?
This music video is important because this is one of the earliest music videos as music videos began around the 1930s. It was shown in theatre in 1932. This music video was from a American two-reel short film, St. Louis Blues, which starred Bessie Smith as it is based on her song.
Even though it's a short film, you can see a live performance of a band which make the music video into a performance-based music video, likely in a restaurant or a bar as you can see waiters walking around and the bartender serving alcoholic beverages at the bar etc. You can see the artist lip-syncing to the lyrics, you could also see the audience lip-syncing as well. No dialogue. As this is one of the earliest music video, it is one of the first music video to do lip-syncing. They used camera shots such as, long shot and medium close up.
At the time, this music video only could be seen in theatre/cinema back in 1932. We are now able to access almost any music almost anywhere now (2016), that shows how much technology has changed. This music video is very different to modern day music videos because it is in black and white, you can tell it is old.
Batcat
Batcat was band that recorded instruments such electric guitars - jetpack 1932 was innovation because it was the first video ever made where television was invented in the 1925. Also the video was famous for their experiment with electromagnetism. Also the music video was animation and was first aircraft. This was recorded produced by gramophone. Jetpack composes, records, and performs the guitar dominated instrumental music known as surf or surf rock, that was a music industry phenomenon of the early 1960s. Although it had retained a following, especially in Southern California, surf experienced a world-wide revival in the 1990s. This means that they perform live as was also known surf rock. In that time surf rock was quite popular. In the music video you see you see footage from out of space but however the band which was shown few time throughout the music video.
This is recognisable as a music video because it was relatable to a genre which is surf rock even though there was no lip syncing there was story behind it which is space and aircrafts. It shows footage of different shots relating to the music also the music video has effects and uses close ups. It shows that it is a music video has no dialog and shows animation and music stick over it. During the video at 2:15 it has some text which is advertising space making young ages see this and what to experience it.
There were various changes happen during this period of time for example in the 1932 they were more music video being made. Also lip syncing is being is being more occurred and live performance are being as a music video. However, music we develop over time as we go down the 1930-1960s music videos were in colour.
This video incorporates colour and settings. They use a piece from the film and turn it into a music video, this is done to highlight her performing the song. 20 years later we can see that this has inspired Madonna as she made her own music called Material Girl. This is very significant as it was inter-textual for future music videos. Also there are performers dancing, this also means it is a music video because it incorporates choreography. one thing I find really interesting is that, they took out it out from a film and made it seem like it was a brand new music video, it was almost as if they were experimenting. They also used different types of shots, we can see that close up is used here multiple times to state the fact that the music video all evolves around Marilyn.
It was one of the first music videos to actually feature colour. There are many ways this video is different, it uses sexualisation a lot more as it focuses on their legs and all the other women in the background. This also has a very good dance and rhythm to the video. This is one of the first music videos to actually spark an era of female sexualised themes.
It has a very interesting video as it is set in a studio with just a group of girls dancing but follows a genre specific theme it uses Mise En scene to its effect and it also uses a wide range of dance themes and expressions. This dance sequence is known as a Choreography which really translates to a dance sequence that draws in the viewer in fact Choreography is probably one of the most effective uses in music videos as it allows the artist to get publicly noticed due to the dance.
Mise En Scene is not recognized on the set but the costume design for the girls is much sexualized in other words Voyeurism. Voyeurism is how people are sexually themed and presented in front of the audience.
One huge costume design in this is the boots, the boots are the main theme of this music video this is what made it successful in the first place. They use this to give off a not only sexy but a cool vibe which gives the audience something to enjoy as they view the music video.
It has a very interesting video as it is set in a studio with just a group of girls dancing but follows a genre specific theme it uses Mise En scene to its effect and it also uses a wide range of dance themes and expressions. David Bowie
This video is effective due to the fact that it is a basic lip sync but the shots and effective props can create conventions for example, his appearance is associated with his stage persona called "Ziggy Stardust" which was Bowie's way of showing Iconography towards his fans so they could act like him and dress like him.
How is it recognisable as a music video?
This is recognizable as a music video because it includes the convention of the 1970's which was the era of experimental video which change the way that people view videos.
Mise en scene is used in this music video because it shows how you can experiment with different costumes and being edgy or weird with your image to sell and promote yourself through visualisation.
visualisation is where the music video is important than the track, this is used to convey meaning
Cultural change in the 1980s.
The style and form of music video had changed as artists were re branding themselves ton suit the new era and how being more creative with their video and using multi camera set up to shoot from different angles and using more narrative to show the story easier.
Video Killed the Radio Star
This music video was the first ever music video to be played on MTV. The name of the song is self explanatory in the sense that music videos actually ruined the radio star, Artists werent being credited for the way their music sounded but for the way there music video looked. for example Radio was dying out and the only way to gain popularity was to create a music video and become a Movie star
for your music.
Michael Jackson Thriller
In 1983, Michael Jackson, Epic Records and Vestron Video, released the music video for thriller. The video itself, had a running time of 13 mins and was loosely based on the horror film "An American Werewolf in London". Micheal Jackson's Thriller video was unprecedented. This was because it was the first ever music video (By a mainstream artist) to create and use the concept of a short film.
Every Breath You Take The Police
What was important about the 1980s?
In the 1980’s, MTV was launched. MTV was the first music channel to broadcast many different artist’s music videos. The first ever music video which was played on MTV was The Buggles’: Video Killed the Radio Star. The 1980’s was also the era of where short films were introduced in music videos. Michael Jackson was the first artist to have a short film music video, Thriller, which was 13 minutes.
How is it recognisable as a music video?
This music video was released in 1983, which has a total of 299 million views. As the lyrics sound romantic, the song is somewhat disturbing. “Every breath you take I’ll be watching you”. This song is about a hooking stalker. It is always interpreted because of the way it sounds but people do not choose to listen to the lyrics properly. The main artist in the band, Sting wrote this song after divorcing his wife. He personally things the song is “a nasty little song”, “evil” and “about jealousy and surveillance and ownership”. P Diddy sampled this song and named it as I’ll Be Missing You. He wrote this song for the late The Notorious B.I.G Wallace, who was murdered in 1997.
In the music video for The Police, it is hyper-reality because the music lives within the ash tray. There are effects such as fade ins, and outs and it is in black and white. There is also lip-syncing, for the majority of the video because it is a live performance where you see the band playing instruments and one of the members, Sting singing the song.

Lucas With The Lid Off
What was innovative/ Important?
this was a ground breaking music video which was released in the year 1994, they were faking the opening sequence of a TV show which was popular at the time called sabotage which is actually related to the title of the song, Also we do not see the artist throughout the whole video either lip syncing or performing to the song. What was innovative about this music video was that it was the first of its kind to have this sort of inter textuallity where the music video is actually paying homage to the actually TV show.
How was it recognized as a music video?
It can be seen as a music video because it conveys the conventions of a music video such as using inter textuallity as it makes reference to a TV show and also there is a a bit of hyper reality going on as usually a cops day life wont really be like what was in the music video and to some extent the music video cut to the beat of the song.
What Technological/ cultural Change happened in this time?
Music videos at this time started to use more artist form of making their videos bending more towards the use of abstract art in their videos while others used things such as TV shows and movies that were already famous in other to appeal not only to their target audience but also to the movies target audience.

Brandy And Monica The Boy Is Mine
The boy is mind is a composition between Brandy and Monica that was release in 1998. I't an innovative by its unique use of mise en scene. It features two different girls fighting over a guy and uses a wall in the middle of the scene to divide them. This symbolises their two houses and helps the person watching to see the two different lives of these girls that share the same man. It also helps to create realism by showing things in real time. This, therefore, make the video more reliable to us at home. This is furthered by the fact that the girls are having a conversation with each other and at one point it even shows them having a telephone conversation that coheres with the lyrics.
It is considered a typical music video because although it features a story, this story only progresses slightly and is more leaned towards the performance of the girls who are singing in their houses. They also use other conventions of music videos. For example, the two singers are lip syncing which is commonly used. However, to make a change the lyrics at some point turn into diegetic when they begin to talk on the phone.
Despite the video being quite contemporary, music videos have still changed hugely since then. In terms of the camera work, this consists mostly one shots which, although cut to the beat, goes at a slower pace to what would have been these days. Another thing changed is the mise en scene and the clothing. The props in the scene have clearly been updated as technology had updated with time. In terms of the clothing. The girls are wearing a lot less revealing clothes in comparison to music videos now days which aim to sexualise the characters in order to sell the music.
They have made a lot of progress from earlier on. There are some transitions such as wipes and fades which help create excitement in the video. Also, about half way through the video, there features a lot of canted angles which haven't been done a lot.

Another thing they have played around with in the beginning of the video is depth of field. One of the girls are positioned in front of the couch but behind the fish bowl and we can see clearly the change from the three different places in the room. This makes it more realistic for the views.

Rihanna Disturbia
The lyrically the song reflect moods and emotion that surround anxiety and confusion.
The songs starts with a fade to create suspension as it is like a horror story which creates tension and could create isolation as the location looks abandoned and she is mental hospital because every scene is different in her actions and costume to show that she has split personality disorder.
This can challenge how society see women because she is experimenting with her personality which could she is not her at the times but someone else to show insecurity and issues to make relationships which could it make it hard to trust anyone.
In one of the scenes she is seen imprisoned wearing lenses that make look as if her eyes have rolled into the back of her head. Rihanna stays in the prison with two men watching on her from the both sides. Other scenes include sitting on a throne chair and singing the song, while two strange women are around her.
This could suggest that her safe is at risk and she may self risk if she is not watched at all times.
The beat is uptempo because it suggests that the song is happening so quickly because every seconds she is a different personality; the time signature 4/4 represents it is fast paced which no breaks and every verse is different to show how she lives in the prison.

History of Music videos
The History of music videos
Music videos have been around for as long as the 1930s they are specifically used to describe or depict a narrative of story essentially a short film which advertises the music itself. Firstly starting off with 1930s music changed featuring different music videos for songs.
As I was researching songs from the 1960s I researched the track Nancy Sinatra called these boots are made for walking this title was released in the late 1960s this song was released 1966 and it was one of the first music videos to actually feature colour.
Kavinsky pacific coast
highway.
·
In Kavinsky pacific coast
highway it uses many elements of gang like themes but it also has a retro theme
as well. This could be classed as a gang themed video as the man in the car is
trying to get away from the police. In this video it is showing the realization
of life and consequences that can follow but in this video it is very techno
and very hyperactive as it’s a man escaping from the police. It also shows the
recklessness that road rage could cause.
·
Arctic Monkeys Do I Wanna Know
·
In this track it isn’t featured
around a gang story but more of a romance like love story with a sort of punk
vibe this music video is all animated and uses animation to create an alternate
universe were there are very kooky aspects of the world. This song is about the
travel through craziness and despair to get to the women he loves this shows
his determination to get to her.
·
Oasis Champagne Supernova
·
In Oasis Champagne Supernova
the music video is very relaxed and very colorful as the video refers to people
being high it creates an atmosphere that makes the viewer look at the screen
and think that the main character in the shot is high this is more of a laid
back song and creates a very relaxing atmosphere.
·
Gorilaz Feel Good Inc
·
In Gorilaz Feel Good Inc the
song features on a floating windmill this is signifying a parallel reality and
the main characters in the video are actually all cartons this creates a more
punk like character creation and it intrigues the viewer of what’s happening.
·
Gorilaz Stylo
·
This track from the Gorilaz I
chose specifically because in this race video it uses star power as it uses
Bruce Willis in it this uses star power but the main theme is a race across a
highway with some violence and it a very punk themed music video.
·
The Verve Bitter sweet Symphony
·
In this track the song itself
is very uplifting and catchy but the music video its self is quite odd as the
main lead is walking down the road without any consent of what he is doing but
he keeps repeating that he can change this involves him bumping into people and
walking over a women’s car this is his life laid out on the pavement it
resembles all of his misfortunes and the things which he has done wrong.
·
Stereophonics Maybe Tomorrow
·
In this track it has a
narrative about a musician coming to fame by making a new song this makes him
very popular this music video reflects upon his life as an upcoming musician as
he is having parties and having a good time. At the start of the video he uses
a metronome.
·
Daft Punk Da Funk
·
In this music video it features
a man with a dog head, which really resembles a mask, and the character is
walking around with an upset personality. Depression for example but toward the
end of the video he finds someone he cares about this then makes him very happy
and the whole video is based around him trying to overcome this sadness within
himself.
