Research Log re-submission

My 1 minuet short film is based off of the film silence of the lambs i wanted to take this psycho thriller/horror and create one of my own ideas from this successful film. another reason is if i based a one minute short film of silence of the lambs is it would pack a lot of punch in other ways it would be incredibly suspenseful. Another reason my short film is based off of silence of the lambs is because of how successful this film was and also how eerie. This film was really successful as it won 5 Oscars and received tons of good reviews this was one of the best thrillers that was ever made and this is one reason why i would like to base my 1 minute short film on this incredible film.

This film was very good but the budget was incredibly high it reached to about 19 million but they were able to make lots of profit from this as its popularity blew through the roof. This is when the film made all of its money.

$13,766,814 (USA) (15 February 1991) (1,497 Screens)
£292,592 (UK) (6 June 1991) (1 Screen)
ARS 688,839 (Argentina) (13 June 1991) (4 Screens)
AUD 3,735,383 (Australia) (16 May 1991) (85 Screens)
DEM 153,261 (Germany) (8 April 1992) (150 Screens)
DEM 2,026,540 (Germany) (18 April 1991) (205 Screens)

As you can see from above this is all of the profit in total they made back and in the first week of the films release in the US they made $13,766,814 which is the majority of the profit which they made back in the first week of release. They also made another 5,800,000 in Australia and in Germany this is why silence of the lambs is such an important task for me to reach for. Views are also very important as this gives the creators and directors more inspiration to make more films.

For classification this film was classed as an 18 in most country's due to the disturbing content only strictly should be viewed by much younger audiences. In some country's in particular this film

When this film was first distributed it was mainly distributed to a large amount of cinemas all over the world. Then this changed and was released for DVD but later became available for blue ray this film also found itself to online distribution such as youtube and other various streaming sites it even found itself on amazon instant video. but online distribution wasn't the only way this film was bought electronically but also became available for IOS and samsung phone products even I Pads.

Research Log:

the research i gathered on the silence of the lambs was very interesting because a lot of the views that this had received were from older teens and grown ups and it states that this film was also very successful for this reason as this film was an 18 rated its target audience was aimed at adults.

Internet

Movie, rating etc. this is a website which is accessible through the internet
This is a very helpful website when it comes to searching through film.
IMBD. It is helpful as you can look at the films rating and the linked example is a black mass thriller which was released in 2015. This also help me to understand the conventions of thriller in much more depth. This is what I hope to achieve in my short film. I also know what to expect more from thrillers.
Internet

Distribution of various films to social streaming networks (Netflix)
This helps students learn and understand how to try to distribute your films or series through Netflix, so that it can be viewed by the world. This can give your thriller a chance to be successful and you can also get reviews on how to make your film better the next time and you also know that Netflix is one good source for all of your work.
Internet

BBFC helps film makers understand the age guidelines to protect the psychological state of younger people
The BBFC are responsible for certifying films all over the country in the UK, to make sure that the age group aren't watching something they shouldn’t. As my short film only features blood and violence it will need to be certified as 12a. This is also very serious as if I was to make another short film in the future I would have to make sure that the film isn’t too graphic as it would be banned entirely. This means that all the money spent making it would have been made for nothing.
Video/internet
As I am making a short thriller film I was looking at the different thrillers that might help my idea. This idea in particular was the best route for me to go as it would help me understand the various camera conventions and how to edit the piece to add an elegant rhythm in my film. The other reason I did this was because these were students making a film I thought it would be better to look at a student’s piece of work.
Book
As my short film is going to be a moving image production I also wanted research books, as they offer better inspiration and more detailed knowledge. The book I researched was of a detective story this will be very beneficial for me not only will I be able to make my detective in my 1 minute short film look professional I will also be able to get a good idea of props like murder weapons and costume design
Internet
This link takes you to the London short film festival website page, as I am making a short film it wouldn’t be a bad idea to look up previous winners and see what they have done.
Website
This is a step by step guide on creating a good short film and how to make it effective. This had many benefits though bother than making your footage good this also helped me understand how to make a good script which will benefit me when it comes to pre-production.

  1. This is not a research log

The audience research could be purposeful - IF you explain how your idea relates to this film
TRENDS? only 1 film - also this is nearly 30 years old
